Stirling Business Month

The aim of STEP’s second big event of Stirling Business Month, chaired by co-founder of Innovators Magazine Susan Robertson, is to recognise the importance of innovation in business.

Speaking at Innovation is Everyone’s Business, held on Friday March 11th, will be a variety of Stirling-based companies, including newly launched business Kids Creative, and Scotland’s largest mobile app development company Dogfi.sh Mobile.

Award-winning business Dogfi.sh Mobile has come a long way since starting out seven years ago. It now employs 35 staff in locations around the world, with the company’s headquarters located in the University of Stirling's Innovation Park.

For this company new ideas have resulted in innovative solutions, and consequently considerable growth. The local team of developers came up with the concept for a new app which tells the user how much sugar is in a particular food or drink. And you just have to look at the figures to see how well it has done - the Sugar Smart app has had 1.7 million downloads and over 20 million scans since its launch on January 4th 2016. Supermarkets and manufacturers such as Tesco, Aldi, Weetabix and Flora have pledged their support for the app, with huge support via YouTube and Twitter.

STEP is delighted to welcome co-founder of Dogfi.sh Mobile Ross Tuffee to our Innovation event. He will talk about continuous innovation and leveraging mobile channels, and no doubt touch upon Sugar Smart’s massive success.

Scottish Enterprise’s Wider Innovation team has been significantly increasing the number of Scottish companies improving their competitiveness through new and improved products. Members of their team will provide valuable advice at STEP - about how to produce new ideas and products, and how to bring a new product to market.

One designer experienced in bringing a new product to market is Kate Caven from Kids Creative. Her innovative solution for high quality, inspiring children’s furniture has been supported by the Prince’s Trust. After spotting a gap in the market she came up with a product which makes a space for children more interesting and attractive, as well as triggering a positive mind-set.

Other speakers from CA Models and Bellwether Green will share tips on how you can stimulate creativity and ideas within your organisation. Interface will inform the audience about how your business can really benefit by linking up with the right academic institution. They will also provide options for funding.

Innovation is Everyone’s Business is sponsored by Trotec, global leaders in advanced laser technology. Trotec will be inviting Friday’s audience-members into STEP’s Technology Centre – it’s a great opportunity to see 3D printers, 3D scanners and the drone in action! The Technology Centre is ideal for anyone looking to come up with a new product, as this is a space where you can create almost anything.
